Statement of the problem free essay sample
There is no doubt that throughout history, written and spoken translations have played an increasingly crucial role in interhuman communication as well as in access to precious literature from different groups of foreign languages around the world. As a consequence, translators are given not only greater importance but also bigger challenges. With regard to the latter, equivalence in translation is one of the central issues resulting in considerable obstacles for a large number of translators in general and students majoring in English linguistics in particular. So far, there is not yet any fixed rules of equivalence to be applied in specific texts, in reality, the equivalence is used for the sake of convenienceâ⬠because most translators are used to it rather than because it has any theoretical status (quoted in Kenny, 1998:77). In addition, Havey and Higgins (1992, pp. 22) points out that: The difficulty associated with the notion of achieving equivalent effect in translation is that it implies the translator is attempting, in accordance with our definition above, to reproduce in the TT the sameeffect achieved in the ST. We will write a custom essay sample on Statement of the problem or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page This is problematic, clearly, since the effect aries across individuals, or even upon the same individual at different times,[ ]the only effect translators can truly know is that produced on their own minds, and therefore the only equivalence possible is what seems acceptable to each translator, perhaps after consultation (In Amstrong, N. (2005). Translation, Linguistics, Culture: A French-English Handbook. Great Britain: Cromwell Press Ltd). In other words, in terms ot equivalence in translation, there is still not any official rules to be tollowed. In reality, every translator has their different methods of equivalence to apply to a certain text. As a result, it is fundamental to make allowances for key fators having influences on finding equivalence in translation. Specifically, taking the 3rd year good students majoring in English Interpretation and Translation at University of Languages and International Studies, Hanoi into account, this study will concentrate on what makes a group of pupils better at determining translation equivalence than the others. With reference to this area of equivalence in English translation, a relatively large body of research has been widely conducted , which comprises the studies by Nida and Taber (1982), Baker (1992), Kenny, Dorothy (1998), Vanessa Leonardi (2000). Nevertheless, almost all of the studies only focus on concepts, definitions, types or approaches to translation equivalence . Therefore, the study will make contribution to filling the gap of little consideration about marked elements affecting translation equivalence determination in previous researches. All the conditions above have offered the researchers a chance to conduct a study on factors having influences on finding equivalence in translation of the 3rd year good students majoring in English Translation and Interpreting at the University of Languages and International Studies, Hanoi. Ill. Aims and objectives The paper is aimed at exploring factors affecting students competence of translation equivalence within the faculty of English Interpreting and Translating of the ULIS. Firstly, the study gives an overview of translation and equivalence as foundation for the following process. Next, a closer look will be taken at the factors affecting the students good at translation equivalence . Besides, having taken other related factors into consideration, the study comes to conclusion about certain elements having impacts on students competence of equivalence in translation, at he same time several recommendations of the good students raised to enhance ability of finding equivalence in translation by and large.

Most of these accidents could have been avoided by the crew if they would have been communicating to each other better. Some common errors that occur among the crew are poor task delegation, assertiveness, and distractions. Crew training in communication and teamwork will increase the crews performance level. Programs like Crew Resource Management (CRM) have been developed to try to help the crews work together and reduce the human factor in accidents. CRM includes training in leadership/followership, assertiveness, management, communication, teamwork, decision making, and task delegation. Through programs like CRM crews learn to work together as a team, and when they are working together it is less likely therell be an accident. INTORDUCTION Background The cause for most aircraft accidents (65%) are by crew error (FAA News, 1996). When the Crews performance level is low due to poor teamwork and communication this is when accidents happen. How can crew error be reduced? Even though human error cant be reduced completely through constant training and effort by the crew performance will increase and accidents will be reduced. Purpose/Audience This report is intended for a general audience and will show how important it is for the flight and cabin crew to work together and communicate as a team. This report will also examine the CRM program. Sources Sources have been obtained for this report from the Internet and from the Waldo Library, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan. Scope Teamwork and communication are a critical factor in the crews operation of aircraft. Accidents can be prevented when these two factors are considered. COLLECTED DATA Importance of Communication amoung the Crew People communicate to each other every day. From a kids talking to their parents about their report card, to doctors working in an operating room. In order for us to understand one another we must be clear in what we say. For instance, if a doctor tells a nurse to pull a certain plug on a machine, hed better be clear on what he says or the nurse might end up harming a patient. Likewise, the cabin and flight crew must work together. In a typical cockpit the flight crew is very busy, and they need to be well organized to handle the many tasks they perform. They need to communicate properly and clearly for safe operations, if they dont their actions could result in a tragedy. Main Cause of Aircraft Accidents Mechanical problems and technical malfunctions do contribute to aircraft accidents, but human error is the main cause, accounting for 65% of the accidents (FAA News, 1996). See the pie chart in figure 1. This figure is quit high, and if it were possible to reduce human error the accident rate would drop significantly. Accidents that occur because of human error are not a direct result of just one error but of a chain of errors. The human error chain results when one bad decision leads to another which leads to the accident. The question is, how can we reduce human error in the cockpit? Studies have shown that most incidents could have been prevented if communication and leadership skills were improved. .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02 , .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02 .postImageUrl , .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02 , .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02:hover , .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02:visited , .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02:active { border:0!important; } .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02:active , .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02 .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u5ec01dd04cee24cc7f3ae402b2ba0c02:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Dancing In The Snow EssayDuties of Crew Members In order to have a clear understanding of whos involved in the crew, these positions with their duties will be discussed. Musical Preferences essays
Musical Preferences essays As history continues to progress from century to century, one of the most creative and vocalized pieces expressed through culture and community, in my opinion is gospel music. Throughout African-American societies, these pieces of work seem to be many of the different musical and social phenomenon of the twenty- first century. I love to listen to different types of music that make way for families to continue reuniting, perhaps a sense of unity or music that expresses love and gratitude with thoughts of making a difference. However, the best music I have ever heard would be that of an inspirational and encouraging level also known as gospel music. For quite sometimes now, listening to mainly African-American gospel has been one of the major key influences of contemporary popular music that has shaped my life and made me the person I am today. According to B.J. Reagon (2010), African American music in structure and sometimes in content that drives mainstream popular music worldwide (Reagon, p. 3). For instance, the way the artists voice is used, the way the instruments are held and played, or even the way the instruments sound when played. In my opinion, these mainstream indeed show dialogue which can be traced to Black folk religious traditions within African-American societies in the past and present day. Now because this particular race of gospel music is a powerful musical and spiritual expression that may be defined by the musical style and performance practices. Now there are a variety of artists that represent my listening preferences and those artist are Kirk Franklin, Dottie Peebles, Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurkin, Tye Tribett, Tamela Mann, Donnie Hathaway, Shirley Ceasar, and others. This group of individuals represent my listening preferences because they all provide me with a sense of encouragement, integrity, inspiration, and motivation to not only walk by faith, but have enough faith that my worse...

Demand and Competition Despite growing consumer demand for PCs and tablets, industry profit will continue to fall because of intense price competition. To boost profitability, manufacturers will shift their focus away from consumer PC ales to more enterprise-oriented offerings, such as servers. The proliferation of cloud computing will prompt companies to increase their server investments. Analyzing Industry Attractiveness Porters 5 Forces of Competition: 1. In a continuously growing industry ASUSTek finds itself among large amounts of competition. Its direct rivals include Apple Inc. , Dell, and HP. 2. Threat of substitutes is low due to a very brand loyal industry with the top 5 manufacturers holding over half of the market share. 3. Threat of new entrants is low considering the top competitors are so powerful. Computer Technology as an industry that seeââ¬â¢s new companies entering and exiting each year, but brand loyal customers who demand cutting edge technology stick with those powerful manufacturers. 4. There isnââ¬â¢t a certain supplier that has control over the market. 5. There is not one customer in particular that has an effect on this industry. Technology: In recent years technological advances have assisted everyone from parents, to businesses and their employees in simplifying everyday tasks. Advanced PCââ¬â¢s, netbooks, tablets, and smartphones of recent years have started becoming our main source of communication and information collection. Computer manufacturers see new trends like touchscreen, wireless capabilities, or voice command enter the industry, and suddenly all of them are altering their products to not only stay competitive but to meet their suppliers derived demand. Extended battery life, overall size, faster processing, cloud computing, and sync capabilities are some of the new technologies that each manufacturer offers in their own way. Competition from Substitutes Taiwanese website NCCC have posted images of what they claim to be the next generation Asus EEE Pad, codenamed ââ¬Å"TF300Tâ⬠. From the images the only specs known are a 10. 1? screen and a rear camera. The model number ââ¬Å"TF300Tâ⬠suggests that this could be the next version in the Transformer lineup after the original Transformer (TF101) and Transformer Prime (TF201). Threat of entry ASUSTek is the worldââ¬â¢s top 3 leading consumer notebook vendor and maker of the best-selling and most award winning motherboards. Operating at such a high level in an industry like computer technology is not an easy task, even more difficult for those companies in their infancy stages. New entrants in computer technology face the daunting task of competing with organizations like ASUSTek whose reputation is as strong as their customerââ¬â¢s loyalty. In an industry as advanced as computer technology, large amounts of funding are necessary to test and develop new pieces of hardware. This also makes competition more difficult for new entrants whose budget may not allow them the ability create and test several lines of product. Asus has not only developed over 16 tried and true product lines, they are now altering them with renewable materials like leather and bamboo, revolutionizing the industry yet again. In order for ASUSTek to succeed in this ultra-competitive IT industry, they focus on speed-to-market, cost and service. Asus has developed a strong advantage in their product design, technology, quality, and value/cost. These strengths are marketed directly to the hearts of our loyal consumers, and have created a formula for success that is hard to duplicate. Rivalry Between Established Competitors * ASUS: Eee Pc VS. Lenovo ThinkPad Trends The current trend has been the tablet pc. It is light-weight, convenient and fairly cheap to purchase. Laptops with the highest performing components are also high in demand. I did some cross-referencing research by looking at who has the best product out today and compared it to the overall leading company in the industry. I found the companies with the best current products They are as follows; 1. HP had 17. 7% market share, compared to 17. 3% in last yearââ¬â¢s third quarter. 2. DELL had an 11. 6% share of the market, compared to 12. 2% last year 3. APPLE took third place, with 12. 9% share. 4. ACER had a 10. 6% share in the third quarter, compared to a 14. 2% share last year. 5. SONY has a 11. 6 share in the third quarter, compared to a 12. 2% last year Then, the leading manufactures (based on consumer reports, link above) 1. ACER had a 10. 6% share in the third quarter, compared to a 14. 2% share last year. 2.

Privacy On The Internet Essay -- essays research papers
Privacy on the Internet à à à à à Ever feel like you are being watched? How about having the feeling like some one is following you home from school? Well that is what it will be like if users do not have the privacy on the Internet they deserve. EPIC (Electronic Privacy Information Center), a advocacy group that has been fighting the Clinton Administration for tougher online consumer protection laws, and other privacy protection agencies have formed to protect the rights and privileges of the Internet user. When the user opened up the BIOS there was now an option to either enable or disable the serial number on the chip. But since not many people know how to get into the BIOS of a computer it is hard for this option to be accessed. And once again Intel was back in the c... ... There’s no doubt there are serious privacy concerns for Internet users, about à ¼ of them don’t understand what is going on or just plainly don’t care about the risks that are involved. Our privacy on the Internet, or privacy in our lives. It is now the public’s turn to speak up. We need to make our voices heard on these big privacy issues so we don’t end up losing every thing that this country has worked so hard for. We need to stand up and help EPIC and other protection agencies to help them help us. Our privacy is at stake and we need to control it, because without our privacy who knows what might happen in the years to come. Maybe people listening in on your telephone conversations or cameras in your house to make sure you are not doing anything wrong. Stand up for what you believe and lets end this once and for all. Privacy is what every American needs and America needs privacy. Get in the act now, privacy on the Internet.
